Look out for changes coming to Lhtako Dene Park. This spring, the steam shovel and boiler will be moved to its original place in Likely, BC. In the last few years, the City has been working with community groups in Likely to repatriate the equipment. Workers will be onsite over the course of a few days to carefully remove and transport the equipment.
In the next few weeks and over the course of 2023/2024, a new park sign welcoming visitors to the Territory of the Lhtako Dene Nation will be installed, the steam shovel pad will be landscaped and a dipnet and sockeye salmon sculpture will be added. Other features will be added to the park as the project develops.
We look forward to working with the Lhtako Dene Nation on this project and continuing to recognize their traditional territory, history, and cultural presence throughout the Quesnel area. This park will be a place where people can gather, learn, celebrate culture, help build community and strengthen relationships.
