About our roads

The Public Works Department has many responsibilities and provides a wide variety of services to the public. One of those services, is maintaining our roads and streets.

We maintain 100 kilometers of streets, 22 km of lanes and 100 km of sidewalks, covering every aspect of maintenance from sweeping streets, filling potholes and putting in wheelchair accessible sidewalks to snow removal. This department is also responsible for carrying out the City's Capital Works Program, which can involve more than $1 million per year in projects from the construction of new parks to the construction of major roads.
