Official Community Plan Update

The City of Quesnel is in the process of updating the Official Community Plan (OCP)! This is an exciting time and the City wants to hear your thoughts and ideas on how the City will evolve as it looks to the future.

The current Official Community Plan was adopted in 2007, with minor amendments having been made to plan over the last 10 years.  This revision is an opportunity to update the OCP to align with other planning initiatives the City has undertaken in recent years, such as the Active Transportation Plan and the Quesnel Parks, Green Spaces and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan.

Public involvement is key in improving the implementation of the OCP and developing policies that reflect Quesnel’s changing needs. The new, updated plan will shape the community to be more livable, sustainable and fun in the years ahead.

Stay tuned for more updates and learn where and when opportunities to participate in public engagement activities will be held. The City looks forward to hearing your insights to help address community opportunities and challenges.

#Quesnel2030 Photo Contest

Show us your Quesnel!

We want to see our beloved Quesnel through your eyes. Snap a shot of your favourite park, bench, building, feature, event or even person that makes Quesnel unique and special to you.

Entrants are invited to submit their photos related to the following categories:

  • Environment: skylines, open spaces, landscapes, parks/trails, wildlife, waterways, shorelines and agriculture.
  • Architecture: urban/rural design, city & streetscapes, landmarks & infrastructure.
  • People: images of residents and visitors participating in festivals, events, attractions, programs, sports & social activities.
  • Community: street/nightlife, activities/attractions, dining, shopping, celebrations, arts & cultural events, volunteering, sports/recreation.

Three finalists from each category will be voted on by you, the people, at an upcoming public engagement event. Extra points will be given to photos that display one or more of the following: authentic emotions; energetic moments; a spirit of adventure; celebrating our sense of place; warm hues; and orange accents.

Winners from each category will receive a gift and their photos may appear in the new Official Community Plan! All photo entries must be received by January 15, 2017 and submitted by email to info@cityspaces.ca with the subject line: Quesnel2030 Photo Contest. See Contest Rules below.

Contest Rules:
All submissions must be received by January 15, 2017 and be provided in JPEG or JPG file format and follow the required naming convention. The file name of the submitted photo must have the person’s first and last name, including contact phone number, to be considered. See the example provided:

Those who submit photos agree to have their photo used in any City of Quesnel communication and/or policy materials and recognize it is their responsibility to get approval from any subjects in a submitted photo. Please ensure highest resolution possible, as this will be important when considering inclusion of the photo in the new Official Community Plan. However, photos larger than 20MB may not be received due to email attachment size limitations.

#Quesnel2030 Public Events

Thank you everyone who participated in our Quesnel2030 OCP engagement launch this past weekend! We had an evening of speakers and took the City on a neighbourhood road show with pop-up events all over the City. We enjoyed hearing your thoughts and ideas on land use and future development.
