INFORMATION AND APPLICATIONS
Building Inspection is responsible for receiving and reviewing construction drawings for all types of buildings and structures prior to permit issuance. The drawings are reviewed for compliance to the BC Building Code, Fire and Health Departments, as well as City Zoning, Development and Building Regulations.
Inspectors are also responsible for inspecting various stages of building construction and associated plumbing installation to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and bylaws to ensure the health and safety of citizens.
To apply for a building, plumbing or woodstove installation permit, you will need a completed application form, detailed drawings (or woodstove/chimney manufacturers installation specifications), and the proper signatures or authorization from the property owner.
In some instances engineered drawings and trusses, a site survey (Certificate of Location), Homeowner Protection Office registration, a development permit, or further professional review or other permits may be required prior to permit issuance.
Turnaround time for building permit issuance is generally 3 weeks but is dependent on the number of permits in process and the time of year.
